Landscape Lighting Pro Tips
Pro Tip #1
Proper placement of LED Outdoor Lighting is important. We want to eliminate hot spots cast on tree trunks and focus more on tree canopy illumination. A "hot spot" is akin to holding an old school mag light up to your face telling spooky stories around a camp fire. We do not want to see that in a professional install, it's just not a good look.
Pro Tip #2
To illuminate your home use an angle placement of 90 degrees vertical for all landscape lighting fixtures to up light your home's roof-line. The light will dance off of the eves of your home creating a soft nighttime glow. Most DIY homeowners and "professional aka mow and blow grass cutters" aim the landscape lighting directly at the exterior wall of the home creating a huge hot spot. This is never a good look.
Pro Tip #3
When installing outdoor lighting path lights, place your fixtures in an alternating pattern if possible. Stagger the lights and create different way points. This is more preferable than the typical DIY installation where the path light fixtures are lined up like an air plane landing strip at Southwest International. "Clear for Landing!"
Pro Tip #4
Make sure to bury the low voltage landscape lighting wire 12 inches deep for the transition between the lawn and the landscape beds. this will keep the lawn company from hitting the wires while edging your landscaping beds. There may be areas around mature existing palm trees with thick fibrous matted roots impossible to dig through so it is best to go around if possible. The second option is to run the wire and top-dress with 4 inches thick of mulch.
